I hope that this encourages viewers to research and appreciate further the reform works of Dr. Neelan, which can also be their first step in understanding the current state of democracy in Sri Lanka that need improvement with the help of Dr.

"I had never heard of Neelan Tiruchelvam before, and he led a fascinating life. The historical context surrounding the film was also fascinating, interesting, and wholly important for telling the story in whole. I think it is absolutely a story that needs to be told, and needs to be understood.  The drama provided in the documentary was real, was human, and came from interviews full of people that knew Neelan and understood deeply their community and the political drama of the time period. It was raw and it definitely added depth to the film. Pace is a difficult thing to do for a documentary, and this one specifically was quite long, being over 2 hours in length. that being said, I can't really think of any part of the film that could be left out - there is so much necessary context surrounding Neelan's life and the world that made him, and I don't know if it could be shorter, nor could the interviews really be cut or edited more than they are. I also think the narrator provides information when necessary and adds to the story."

" The documentary is gripping.... The first half takes some time to build, but it is necessary for the viewer to know about the subject, the history and the people in the documentary.... The hard work of the director can be seen.  The second half is really good. It really picks up after the first half. It shows the conflicts between the ethnic communities. Lots of violence took place due to these conflicts. This made me feel emotional. The news clippings and videos really strengthen the documentary.  The second half is directed very well. It has a good flow. It shows efforts made by Neelan Tiruchelvam to bring peace in the country, develop reforms. "I thought [the documentary] really took the time to explore the subject and the different angles of the interviews helped that and tying in past materials. I think it was a lot of information but I felt that it also gave a good view of everything and shows how complicated this issue is. I liked the interviews with all the family members and colleagues as I felt like they rounded our his personality beyond just like facts. It helped me see him as more of a human and person. I also liked the footage of him hearing him and I feel like it rounded him out as a human/made him relatable. Hearing his brother speak and friend were personal favorites as it made him more of a human and less like a person you would read in a history book. It still presented facts though and details of why he is so important but also why he was also just a regular human "

"I was unaware of who Dr. Neelan was before your documentary and felt changed and sympathetic for Sri Lanka's unstable government. This was, indeed, a well-made story worthy for a loyal, empathetic, and honorable family man such as Dr. Neelan. His story, family, and experiences made me feel a range of emotions. He came across as someone who loved life and only wanted his people, his country, to experience the world as he saw it. To live a life of security and equality was the root of it all for him. Dr. Neelan's quote shown for the last scene was an amazing note to end on. I loved his message. Although he had died in an unfortunate way and before he could help his country reach their highest potential, I still feel immense love and emotions through his actions. Someone secure in his own life didn't need to help people who constantly berated him, labeling him a traitor, but he did it anyway because he saw what Sri Lanka's future could be through peaceful negotiation and plain respect. Again, such a solid piece for me. "
